ICSA rural development chairman Billy Gray has called for an extension to the period for completing work under the TAMS farm safety scheme, given that approval has not yet been confirmed for all applicants.
“ICSA is aware of farmers who have only received approval this week, and of others who are still waiting,” said Mr. Gray. “These farmers are expected to have all work completed by August 31st, which is completely unrealistic at this stage. With so many farmers seeking to get work done in such a short space of time, there will inevitably be an increased demand on local services, which will further exacerbate the situation.”
“We are aware that the money allocated for the scheme must be paid out by the end of 2015, but the Department is giving itself four months to process payments, while some farmers will have less than six weeks to complete the work.”
