ICSA President Patrick Kent today welcomed proposals by EirGrid to construct part of the Grid West project underground. “ICSA has long campaigned for due consideration to be given to the undergrounding of such projects, due the negative effects on farming, landscape and tourism and also because of public concerns regarding the possible health risks of overhead lines,” said Mr. Kent.
“Despite having originally dismissed the possibility of underground cables, EirGrid has now accepted it as a viable option. This model should be a template for future development, and we hope it will also be considered in the context of the Grid Link project.”
