ICSA Welcomes Hogan’s Plans for Legislation on Food Price Chain

ICSA president Patrick Kent has welcomed comments today by EU Commissioner Phil Hogan regarding his plans to introduce legislation ensuring a fair share of food retail prices for farmers.

Mr. Kent also sounded a note of caution, however. “Bringing forward such legislation will require the power to scrutinise whether multi-national retailers are taking excessive margin from products like beef and lamb at the expense of the primary producer.‎ In the past efforts to bring retailers into line have foundered due to a lack of real political will to grapple with this issue,” he warned.

ICSA SLAMS UNFAIR TARGETING OF IRISH LIVESTOCK HAULIERS ABROAD

ICSA president Sean McNamara has said he is urgently seeking clarification regarding the recent targeting of Irish livestock trucks by Irish officials at the port of Cherbourg. “ICSA has been contacted by several of the livestock hauliers affected who claim they were singled out by the Irish officials for additional inspections by the French authorities while non livestock carrying trucks were left alone. This was despite these inspections having no relevance to animal welfare,” he said.
