ICSA SAYS MINIMAL CHANGE TO ANC AREAS WILL BE A RELIEF FOR MANY BUT FOCUS MUST NOW BE ON GETTING MOST MONEY TO THOSE WHO NEED IT THE MOST

21 NOVEMBER 2018

ICSA rural development chairman Seamus Sherlock has said that most farmers will be relieved that 98% of land eligible for ANC payment will continue to be eligible under the new EU rules to apply from 2019 onwards.

“I am particularly pleased to see that Co Limerick has got a significant boost in extra additional area which I believe reflects the heavy land and high rainfall in much of the County. The challenge now is to ensure that those who need the payment the most get the most. As the old saying goes, it’s not so much that there are disadvantaged areas; rather there are disadvantaged farmers. ANC payments are especially vital for low income cattle and sheep farmers.”

“It is important that we are finally getting some clarity on this topic and ICSA will be engaging with the Department on this before the end of the week.”
