ICSA president Patrick Kent has said he fully supports farmers’ objections to the proposed route of the Athlone to Galway stretch of the Greenway cycle pathway.

At a meeting attended by over 100 land owners in Loughrea last night (Thursday September 18th), Mr. Kent stressed total opposition to a route being imposed against the wishes of land owners,  “ICSA fully stands behind farmers in this region and we share their concerns about the negative impact of a Greenway route which splits farms or which interferes in any way with the business or the privacy of individual farmers”.

Land owners are particularly angry at any suggestion that a CPO process could be used to force the project through against the wishes of farmers.

Galway ICSA chairman Pat Loughnane has indicated his total opposition to the plan for this project, “I am committed to giving every support to the local farmers in fighting against an imposed solution”. A similar view was expressed by ICSA Roscommon chairman Ger Grehan.

The campaign against the proposed Greenway route will be highlighted by the ICSA at their stand at this years ploughing championships, Row 25 Stand 422.
