THAT’S FARMING – 3 May 2016

ICSA is holding a protest against the proposed Mercosur and TTIP trade deals tomorrow, Wednesday 4 May 2016.

The protest will take place outside the offices of the European Commission on Lower Mount St at 11.30am.

ICSA is focusing on the EU Commission in response to the excessively weak negotiating position taken by the Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström without any democratic mandate.

ICSA strenuously opposes any trade deal which would threaten the future of the Irish beef Industry. EU trade deals such Mercosur with South America and TTIP with North America could result in thousands of tons of tariff free beef flooding the EU market which would be devastating for Irish beef exports.

The protest will involve ICSA national representatives from all over Ireland and several hundred are expected to attend.

ICSA is urging all farmers to come out to fight for fair play with ICSA. All politicians are invited to meet the protestors.

ALTERNATIVE SCEP TRAINING OPTIONS MUST BE PROVIDED

ICSA Suckler chair Jimmy Cosgrave has hit out at the Department of Agriculture’s decision to offer only online training to participants of the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP). “This move is very concerning, especially considering the older age demographic of suckler farmers. Many of these farmers may not have reliable internet access or have the necessary computer skills to navigate complex online platforms. The focus should be on ensuring as many farmers as possible can benefit from the scheme rather than putting barriers in place,” he said.
