ICSA Welcomes New Fund to Promote Lamb Consumption

20th October 2014

ICSA sheep chairman Paul Brady has welcomed today’s announcement of a €7.7 million lamb promotion campaign to be run in six EU countries including Ireland.

“Given the decline in sheep meat consumption, particularly in recent years, this announcement of further collaboration in the use of EU funds is particularly welcome,” said Mr. Brady. “There has already been co-operation between France, England and Ireland in relation to lamb sales, and it is to be hoped that investing further and involving more countries in this promotion will be of benefit to all, particularly the primary producers.”

ALTERNATIVE SCEP TRAINING OPTIONS MUST BE PROVIDED

ICSA Suckler chair Jimmy Cosgrave has hit out at the Department of Agriculture’s decision to offer only online training to participants of the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP). “This move is very concerning, especially considering the older age demographic of suckler farmers. Many of these farmers may not have reliable internet access or have the necessary computer skills to navigate complex online platforms. The focus should be on ensuring as many farmers as possible can benefit from the scheme rather than putting barriers in place,” he said.
