22 MARCH 2017

ICSA general secretary Eddie Punch today met with EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis in Brussels where he emphasised the need for a tough response to the Brazilian meat scandal.

“ICSA is calling for a full ban of Brazilian meat imports in light of the adulteration of meat and corruption regarding food safety standards in Brazil.”

Mr Punch met with the Commissioner at the margins of the Committee of the Regions plenary session at the European Parliament. “The commissioner informed ICSA that he was travelling to Brazil on Sunday and he accepted the ICSA argument for a tough response.”

The ICSA general secretary attended the Committee of the Regions where EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier outlined his strategy for Brexit negotiations. “Barnier specifically referred to the special position of Ireland in relation to Brexit. ICSA will continue to lobby to ensure that the Brexit talks result in continued tariff free access to the UK market for Irish produce.
